Managing dyslipidaemia in the context of diabetes

چکیده
Mike Kirby is Visiting Professor, Centre for Research in Primary & Community Care, University of Hertfordshire. People with diabetes have an increased risk of cardiovascular complications, including acute coronary syndrome, stroke, heart failure and arrhythmias. The background to this risk for the development of cardiovascular complications is multifactorial and our understanding of the nature of atherosclerotic disease has progressed considerably. This article explores the latest thinking on the link between the various facets of dyslipidaemia and cardiovascular risk and reviews current evidence for lipid management in people with diabetes.

Smart Diabetic Screening and Managing Software, A Novel Decision Support System
Background: Diabetes is a serious chronic disease, and its increasing prevalence is a global concern. If diabetes mellitus is left untreated, poor control of blood glucose may cause long-term complications. A big challenge encountered by clinicians is the clinical management of diabetes. Many IT-based interventions such ad CDSS have been made to improve the adherence to the standard care for ch...

متن کاملPemafibrate (K-877), a novel selective peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha modulator for management of atherogenic dyslipidaemia
Despite best evidence-based treatment including statins, residual cardiovascular risk poses a major challenge for clinicians in the twenty first century. Atherogenic dyslipidaemia, in particular elevated triglycerides, a marker for increased triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and their remnants, is an important contributor to lipid-related residual risk, especially in insulin resistant conditions s...
متن کاملDiabetes mellitus and stroke: A clinical update
Cardiovascular disease including stroke is a major complication that tremendously increases the morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). DM poses about four times higher risk for stroke. Cardiometabolic risk factors including obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidaemia often co-exist in patients with DM that add on to stroke risk. Because of the strong association between D...
متن کاملEffect of Linalool on the Activity of Glyoxalase-I and Diverse Glycation Products in Rats with Type 2 Diabetes
Background and purpose: Hyperglycemia contributes to type 2 diabetes and diabetes vascular complications by reduction of the activity of glyoxalase-I (GLO-I) and elevation of glycation, oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers. Linalool is reported to have beneficial effects on glucose metabolism in animal models of diabetes, so, this study aimed at investigating the effect of linalool on the...
